SAFARI HIGHLIGHTS:
Day 5:Early morning game drive intoSamburu National Reserve andBuffalo Springs NationalReserve, with picnic lunch, discovering the Special Five ofSamburu: the reticulatedgiraffe, the Grevy zebra, theoryx, the Somali ostrich and thegerenuk, all rare species thatoccur only in this part of thecountry; in the evening gamedrive in Kalama Conservancy,a 200,000 acres privateconservancy, ending with bushdinner in the middle of a“nowhere full of everything”;
DAY BY DAY DETAILED ITINEARY:
1: Nairobi and Meru National Park: Scheduled Air Kenya flight: 09.15 a.m. Nairobi Wilson – Meru (50 minutes).Picked up at airstrip and transferred to Rhino River Camp (by a 30 minutes game drive or as long as you wish). After lunch afternoon game drive or any other activity (bush walking, hiking, biking, fishing, guided bird-watching, bushmeals, sundowners, visit villages, massages, or just relax at the swimming pool). Dinner and overnight.
Day 2: Meru National Park: Morning and afternoon game drives discovering the lush rivers of Meru and its dry areas, among large populations ofelephant and other species;
Day 3: Meru National Park: Morning and afternoon game drive, discovering new areas of this park, considered the best managed national park inKenya;
Day 4: Rhino River and Samburu: Morning game drive transfer to airstrip (30 minutes) and scheduled Air Kenya flight to Samburu at 10.35 a.m. (25 minutesflight). In some cases, this transfer is done with a closed special vehicle by road, along a scenic new road just openedbetween Meru and Samburu;In case of flight, the guests are picked up at airstrip and transferred to Saruni Samburu by either a full day game drive withexciting picnic lunch by the EwasoNyiro river, or by a shorter 1 and half hour game drive across several conservancies.After lunch, afternoon game drive or any other activity. In the evening, scenic sun downer on Milima Moshi, overlooking MtKenya and the Northern Kenya landscape.Saruni also do night game drives and very often do bush dinners in the dry river beds of Kalama Conservancy. Withoutmentioning the excellent treatments available at the Samburu Wellbeing Space.
Day 5: Samburu: Early morning game drive into Samburu National Reserve and Buffalo Springs National Reserve, with picnic lunch,discovering the Special Five of Samburu: the reticulated giraffe, the Grevy zebra, the oryx, the Somali ostrich and thegerenuk, all rare species that occur only in this part of the country; in the evening game drive in Kalama Conservancy, a 200,000 acres private conservancy, ending with bush dinner in the middle of a “nowhere full of everything”;
Day 6: Samburu: Morning walk, learning how to recognize the tracks left by the animals during the night and the famous raptors ofSamburu; during the walk we’ll discover the Samburu rock art in some nearby caves; return to the lodge for breakfast; inthe afternoon, evening game drive in remote areas where the semi-nomadic Samburu people live and visit to one of theirtraditional settlements; back to the lodge to admire the stars, exceptionally bright in Samburu;
Day 7: Samburu and Nairobi: Game drive transfer to airstrip for scheduled Air Kenya flight to Nairobi Wilson at 11.10 a.m. (55 minutes flight).

Saruni Samburu: A design lodge located on Kalama Conservancy next to Samburu National Reserve, in Kenya’s wild North.

THE WILDERNESS:
Meru National Park: Situated in northern Kenya, covers an area of 870square kilometers. It straddles the equator about 370 kilometers northeast of Nairobi.Thirteen permanent rivers originate from the high hillsfringing the western boundary of the Park.Such an abundance of water flowing through apredominantly arid part of Kenya creates a mosaic ofdifferent habitats making Meru one of the most diverseParks in the whole Africa. Meru N. P. is home tospecies typical of northern Kenya such as reticulatedgiraffe, Grevy’s zebra, gerenuk, oryx, lesser kudu, whichare not to be found in many other National Parks or areas in Kenya. Not to mention the classic African iconssuch as lion, cheetah, elephant, and hippo.Birdlife is particularly abundant with more than 400different species recorded.A specific mention has to be made for the Rhino Sanctuary which is at the doorstep of Rhino River Camp.The area devoted to the protection and populationincrease of rhinos is today about 50 square kilometersand is located on the Western boundary of the Park.Here 40 white and 20 black rhinos roam freely.
The Samburu Ecosystem: Is one of the most exciting in East Africa and is madeof several national reserves, private ranches andcommunally-owned group ranches that are more andmore interconnected.Famous for its large population of elephants, Samburu stands out for the abundance of northernspecies that cannot be found in other areas of Kenya.Kalama Conservation area, the wildlife sanctuarybordering with Samburu National Reserve where weare located, has an abundance of other rare species,like the leopard, the striped hyena, the civet.We’d love to take you to our secret spots, especiallyfor bush dinner, or to the river for a picnic lunch thatallows us to be with elephants, waterbuck, lion,impala, giraffe and all the Samburu species that goand drink water.If you are passionate about birds, Samburu is yourpreferred park: not only the species are abundant, but the birds are very tame and can be easily spotted andphotographed.
